What? The Internet is out of room? Well, sort of. There are not enough IP addresses to accommodate all the people and devices in the world. Basically we need more, lots more. IPv6 will provide 340 trillion trillion trillion IP addresses.
Can you image having a mobile phone that does not connect to the internet? That is what will happen if more IP addresses are not created. So, today, June 6th, 2012, the transition to IPv6 has begun. Now, don’t freak out, don’t have a panic attack, as this is all being done behind the scenes. You don’t need to prepare anything for IPv6; your applications and devices will work just as they did before. This change is to make sure you can keep using the Internet in the future just as you do today.
Embrace the new Internet, and know that the powers that be have it under control.
