There has been much controversy about this situation, some supporting the move by Metrolist, saying that they are fearful of the way that Zillow may use the information from the MLS feed.  Others are upset in the fact that it takes alot of time to set up and IDX they way you want it to be on your website, and it takes away from the time spent with buyers and sellers.

Either side you are on, it is understandable.  Agents and Brokers must protect themselves and their businesses.

Each year, Leads Group 7 has a friendly competition called the President’s Club.  The goal is to see how many 1-on-1 meetings members can have with each other in a quarter.  A 1-on-1 is where 2 members sit down for 1 hour and talk about each others businesses, how they could refer business to each other, and get to know each other on a more personal level.

Whomever meets with the most members wins the President’s Club Competition.  The prize is a trophy, that is a symbol of determination and commitment by the member that obtains it.  Winning the President’s Club 1-on-1 Competition is definitely an honor.

True, “Unfriend” was the New Oxford American Dictionary word of the year in 2009 – and this year, (thanks to www.Facebook.com/JimmyKimmelLive) on November 17th, it even has it’s own National Holiday.

So how do you avoid the depression, misery and sorrow that accompanies the act of realizing that you have been “unfriended”?

1. Don’t Throw Sheep! We would like to thank the Facebook and Mobile App industry for their contribution in millions of dollars to the economy, but it is quite clear… NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOUR FARM! Furthermore, in a time of economic unrest, there isn’t a lot of admiration going around for the friends on your list who are “too broke” to join you at a nice restaurant on Friday night, but somehow have all the time in the world to harvest their Farmville crops.

2. Please don’t post your children as your profile picture. No we don’t recognize them, yes they are probably beautiful children, but it makes us uncomfortable to wonder if we have somehow “friended” a 10 year old boy… enough said. Yes I went there. Don’t do it.

3. Get REAL with me! If you are all about business, in every post, ten times a day, you are annoying! Seriously. Facebook best supports those who are open about their ‘balanced lifestyle’. Although I appreciate that you are in real estate and of coarse I’m happy you love your job, I’m not going to call you unless I like you… and if you tell me on a daily basis that it’s a great time to buy, I’m going to throw you out like a broken record, “unfriend!”

4. Until we can enroll the general population in a Reality TV Show Addicts Anonymous group, you are gunna have to buy into the belief system that people might actually care about your personal life. No, we do not care what you had for breakfast – BUT – because we are a skittish community of closet stalkers, it seems we do “like” to know where you ate and if you liked the restaurant. Reviews are great! As we learned in Kindergarten: Be nice, and Share!

5. Finally, play by the rules, (Also called: Common Sense).

-          Don’t Spam me: Don’t add me to your group message and spam my notification inbox with alerts every time someone responds to you. There are better ways to promote your event or business! If you don’t know how, yes I can help! But for reals, It. Makes. Me. Dislike. You.-Period. So until we finally get a ‘dislike’ button, you are only going to get “unfriended.”

-          Don’t Mass Invite Me: Don’t invite me to every event or every application and site you join! I’m thrilled that you have a life, or vice versa, are becoming an active internet participant, but unless I actually know your phone number, I don’t care what you read, what song you listened to, or which movie you saw last night on Netflix – remember the statement, “quality vs. quantity” – combine it with “there is a time and place for everything” and figure it out before you click “invite” ever again.
